Remembering Eleanor

The late Eleanor Craig was honoured in the Taupo Great Lake Relay.
Eleanor died last year after contracting meningococcal disease. She has been a huge part of the Kihikihi International Horse Trial family, and very active on the committee for more than a decade.
So it was no surprise when a team stepped up to complete the 155km run around Lake Taupo in her honour.
Chelsey Hawthorn, Cathy Houlbrooke, Bevan Houlbrooke, Kim Hickey, Julie Mazur, Gerred Bowden, Jenna Windley, Rebecca Wooten, Jackie Mexted, Bridget Hawthorn, Diane Norton, Teresa Barrett, Darren Leigh, Rahui Taueki, and Jamie Dudson raised $1550 for the Meningitis Foundation.
Bevan Houlbrooke remembers Eleanor fondly.
“She was one of life’s live wires,” he says. “She had a fantastic sense of humour and was always a lot of fun. She played a big role in growing the Kihikihi International Horse Trial and was a much-loved member of the team.”
The Running for Eleanor team finished the run in 18 hours, 38minutes and 54 seconds. It was the 21st relay to be run and attracted more than 4500 runners and walkers. The winning team was Smiths Sports Shoes and New Balance (Mt Maunganui) who came home in 12 hours, 35 minutes and 24 seconds.
