Kihikihi All The Way for Abby

Full time rider Abby Lawrence is hoping for a repeat performance by her lovely Pseudonym in the CIC3* at Kihikihi this year.
The 26-year-old from Te Puke still feels the warmth of their victory in 2015.
“It was a really special win for us last year,” she said. “We got the horse when he was six for my brother and it hasn’t been an easy road, so it was very exciting to know he has at least one decent win under his belt . . . . he totally deserved it!”
It was a convincing win too, as the only combination of the last seven left in the class, to go clear and inside time in the showjumping, taking the class by just under 10 penalty points.
Following their victory, they were part of the Oceania team at the Taupo Three Day, where he finished fifth, and then third at the Farmlands Horse of the Year Show recently.
“He is 17 now, so is getting on a bit.”
It wasn’t their first victory at Kihikihi either – in 2011 the black gelding won the CIC2* class.
But everything doesn’t always go to plan – she had hoped to compete him at the Adelaide 4* last year, but had to pull the pin when she felt he wasn’t 100%.
“That’s the way it goes sometimes. It is not in his best interests to head over there when he isn’t right.”
Lawrence also plans to compete at Kihikihi aboard Charlton Yamani (owned by Lawrence and her mother Raewyn) and Lord Fredrick (owned by Sophie Wilkinson).
“I love Kihikihi,” says Lawrence.”The dressage ground on the polo field is just the best footing in the country, I love John’s cross country because it is always a real riders’ track, and it is such a beautifully presented and well run event.”
It’s been a good season for Lawrence, albeit a “development” one.
“Two of my younger ones have stepped up to 2*, another to 1* and one of my babies is about to do his first pre-novice.”
Her other 3* horse Song is heading to the South Island Three Day Event to compete.
