New section at Kihikihi this year >>

There’s an exciting new addition to the 2013 Kihikihi International Horse Trial.

Vice president Peter Jenkins has announced this year will see a new CIC* added to the programme.

“It’s in line with recent FEI changes and the necessary qualifications for 2*, but is a big bonus for the wider eventing community,” says Jenkins. “It just means that anyone who does one stars at Kihikihi and Taupo will be able to run a two star if they wish at the beginning of the 2013-2014 season rather than having to wait until much later because there are so few on the eventing calendar.”

The full schedule for the April 2013 event now includes pre novice, novice, open novice, one star, two star and three star classes.

Planning is well underway for the fast-approaching event. Course designer extraordinaire John Nicholson is – once again – not letting anything slip on just how or where he plans to extend riders on his always challenging course.

“He is such an artist,” says Jenkins. “He will come up with an idea one day and the next, we’ll see it up in the paddock!”

Unfortunately 2012 winner Australian Shane Rose is unlikely to be back to defend his title – despite being very keen to do so.

“I love it at Kihikihi,” said Rose. “I’ve always had a lot of fun there and it’s a great event, but I am planning on heading to Europe for a couple of months, and just can’t do both. It’s disappointing not to head back to defend my title.”

Also missing from the line-up will be competitors in the Trans Tasman Senior Teams Competition, which is due back in Australia in 2014.

The ongoing financial commitment from Waipa District Council is being put to good use, as the organising committee continue to ensure every small detail is seen to in the build up to this year’s event.
