Athletes of all ages and abilities will have an opportunity to run around the world class equestrian cross country course at the Kihikihi Domain.

Cambridge Harriers in association with the Kihikihi International Horse Trial are staging the fourth annual Newstalk ZB Fools and Horses Fun Run on Sunday April 10 at 10am.

“The fun run is totally unique and one of a kind in New Zealand” said organiser Bevan Houlbrooke who was inspired after seeing the concept at the famous Blenheim Horse Trial in England. “The Newstalk ZB Fools and Horses is a 4km run or walk with participants having to negotiate logs, climb walls, and splash through water obstacles” said Mr Houlbrooke.

The 4km loop will start and finish in the main area of one of New Zealand’s premier equestrian events, the Kihikihi International Horse Trial which features also the prestigious FEI World Cup Eventing series.

Houlbrooke says the Newstalk ZB Fools & Horses Fun Run is ideal for serious runners as well as those who want to take it slower and have a heap of fun along the way. People can run as individuals or in teams, and fancy dress is encouraged. “In previous years we have had everything from Scooby Doo to George Bush and Osama bin Laden turn up” said Mr Houlbrooke.

Entry to the fun run is by donation with funds raised going to Riding for Disabled who are fundraising for their member 18 year old Devon Thretheway-Kopper to travel to Greece. Devon has been selected to represent NZ and will ride at the Special Olympics to be held in Athens later this year.

After the fun run participates will be free to enjoy the final day of the Kihikihi International Horse Trial featuring show jumping, a classic car display, live music and an extensive food and trade village.
