FEI World Cup Eventing Series gets under way at Kihikihi, New Zealand >>
The 2011 FEI World Cup Eventing series kicks off in April at the Kihikihi International Horse Trial, in New Zealand. Kihikihi (8-10 April) is the first in the 9-event series, which will be followed by Sydney (6-8 May) one month later. The action will then shift to Europe for 6 events, before returning to Australia (Melbourne) later in the year.

A large purse will once again be on offer to World Cup riders at Kihikihi, a feature which has become synonymous with this event. The total prize money pool for the World Cup class at Kihikihi will be $NZ37,500, the maximum allowable under the 2011 FEI World CupTM Eventing series rules. The winner of the class will pocket a tidy $NZ17,500 and prizes will go down to 5th place.

The World CupTM class at Kihikihi, now in its seventh year, promises to provide a competition in keeping with the prize money on offer. International course designer John Nicholson will once again be putting together a challenging track to test riders’ skills. Respected show-jumping designer Gerit Beker will be returning to the main arena to build the jumping tracks for the FEI classes. And International Judge PollyAnn Huntington will be heading up the panel of FEI Ground Jurors. Preparation for the 2011 event is well underway and the committee are planning to deliver a show of the standard that riders have come to expect at Kihikihi.

Riders competing in the FEI World CupTM class will also be eligible for the prestigious title of FEI World Cup™ Eventing champion 2011 and an additional final prize money pool. Riders will be awarded points based on their performance and final placings at each World Cup event. They will have to obtain a minimum of three FEI World Cup™ Eventing results during the series to be eligible for the title. This year, Australia is putting on a second FEI World CupTM event in Melbourne so that Australasian riders have a chance to feature in the final rankings.

The Organising Committee at Kihikihi welcomes Australian riders wishing to make the trip to the 2011 Kihikihi International Horse Trial. Kihikihi is situated in the Waikato region of the North Island, 2 hours south of Auckland Airport. The Organising Committee is willing to cover travel costs within New Zealand for riders from overseas, and provide other assistance as needed (pre- and post-event billeting, information, etc).

The FEI schedule and entry form for the Kihikihi International Horse Trial are now available on the event website. Entries close on Friday 25th March 2011 with the secretary at 4pm.
